Our campout was so much fun! We had all of the girls there at some point during the campout, and we had Jamie Kieffer, Sharla Stratton Karen Berges and Krissy Cotten all come to help out as leaders! We had tons of fun, but we learned a lot too thanks to Karen Berges our Camp trained leader for our troop. She had everything scheduled and kept us on the ball! All of us who are novices at camping really appreciated her guidance and planning! We also appreciate Sharla Stratton for getting First Aid Trained, because without her we would not have been able to go.
This was most of the girls first time camping in a tent that they had to set up themselves. All of the girls helped with setting up the tents and unloading the cars! All of the girls were assigned to Kapers, which is a Girl Scout name for jobs. They rotated Kapers for every meal. They had to build the fire, cook the food, set the table, and wash the dishes. The girls did not get much of a chance to relax this camping trip, but they all really seemed to enjoy helping! Their cooking jobs and fire building seemed to be there favorites. I think as parents we all underestimate what are children are capable of accomplishing if they are motivated.
We had a lot of fun the first night roasting hot dogs and marsh mellows, and singing by the fire. After dinner the girls participated in making some skits. They had the best time with some of the props that were brought for them to work with. We also did a Mad Lib that was written by Karen Berges. She went around and asked the girls for different words like nouns, adjectives, and verbs to fill the words to the story. The girls ended up coming up with a very funny story. I have posted it underneath.
The next day the girls woke up and fixed eggs, and bacon on our propane stoves. Next the girls did some badge work with looking at nature and then we went down to the creek for some fun! This was most of the girls favorite part of the trip. They all waded down in the creek and took a hike down the creek a little bit!
After that it was time to cook lunch. The girls cooked a grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch. Of course we had PBJ for those who didn't want that. When lunch was completed we packed up camp which took a while.
We then went on a hike to look for trail signs, which led us back to the nature center where the girls learned about different kinds of birds, and other wildlife creatures native to Texas. They also got to touch a non-poisonous snake if they chose to. After that the ranger in charge of the nature center took us on a private nature walk to look at the plants and animals in the park.
After that on the way home we all stopped to grab a bite to eat at Burger King! We were all exhausted, but we had a great campout together!
We will post more pictures of the campout soon.
